This is a study on physical growth during infancy, to evaluate normal growth patterns-and to clarify if there is any difference between the results studied by longitudinal and by cross-sectional study and influencing factors on growth, carried out during the period of March 1983 through August 1985.
The results were as follows:
1. Considerable differences of weight, height and head circumference were noted according to sex and age differences(Table 1-a).
2. Growth rates were decreased with age and shown comparable patterns in groups below 4 month, 5-8 month and 9-12 month of age(Table 1-a, b, 2-a, b, c and Fig. 1¡6).
3. Incremental rates of weight and height were decreased rapidly during first several months and thereafter decreased slowly in both sexes, tut those of head circumference decreased throughout infancy(Table 3-a, b, c and Fig. 7~9).
4. There were significant differences of growth between two studies by longitudinal and by cross-sectional method in both sexes and in most age groups(Table 2-a, b, c).
5. Infant growth was influenced by the parent¢¥s physiques, birth weight and illness hut no by the types of milk.
